Beauvais is perhaps the most beautiful of hand embroideries. A form of tambour embroidery, it consists of extremely delicate chain stitches made with a tiny hook on an embroidery frame. In its most intricate expressions, it embodies the height of French luxury, refined through centuries of craftsmanship. The finest of these embroideries can almost resemble paintings on linen.
